The Solar Tower

25 of August of 1903. Isidoro Cabanyes, publish in the magazine “Electrical Energy”, a proposal for a solar chimney. In 1982 German Ministry of Investigation and Technology, in collaboration with Spanish Power Company Union Fenosa, promoted and financed the construction of a prototype on small scale of a solar tower based on Isidoro Cabanyes principle in a Spanish town: Manzanares. It worked satisfactorily during approximately 8 years and was disarmed in 1989.

100 years later, Isidoro´s idea is going to become true thanks to a new Spanish project in Fuente el Fresno, a little town near Madrid. There, a incredible solar tower of 750 meters of height will be built. Its size will duplicate missing Twin towers height (450 meters).

Once finished it will be the highest construction in Europe. This construction will have a crystal panel of about three kilometers of diameter. In addition, next to the tower a conservatory of 250 hectares will be operated.

This infrastructure is an industrial ecosystem because it will produce clean energy and agricultural products and also will take advantage for the telecommunications. The tower also will have a tourist use since a viewpoint in upper will be created. It will be acceded through elevators. Considering that this place is 720 meters on the level of the sea, it will be able to say that it is to 1,470 meters of altitude.

This nonpolluting power plant, will be able to generate 40 megawatts of electricity every year and will be able to supply of this energy to 120000 people, will save about 140,000 petroleum barrels and will avoid the emission to the atmosphere of 75,000 tons annual of carbon dioxide. Other similar projects are placed in Australia and Saudi Arabia. But this will be first in European Union.

Best position to sit down to work in office

A study from Scottish and Canadian researchers reveal that a straight position to sit down to work in the office is not the best.  Until now people thought 90º was the best position, however a 125º position is better for our health and our back too (:D). Here you can see explanatory graphics.

How to know if your microwave has leaks: Cell Phone Test and WiFi Test

A microwave device is essentially a primitive Faraday cage, which does not let to leave microwaves to the outside. This microwaves are the ones in charge to warm up your food. These waves needs a very high power to obtain its objective, around thousands of W (very many orders of magnitude greater than feared cell phone radiation), reason why is really important an excellent isolation.

There are two ways to test if you microwave has leaks: Cell Phone Test, and WiFi Test.

Cell Phone Test

Cell Phone test consists of introducing your phone in the microwave, closing the door and try to call (allways with microwave turned off :D ). If you call to your number and your phone sounds then there is some type of leak that allows electromagnetic waves to arrive at your cell phone. On the other hand, if your cell phone appears without signal the isolation is correct.

The test is no 100% trustworthy but it helps to understand what happen inside your microwave. Cell phones (in European Union) works in frequencies between 900 and 1800MHz (GSM) or 2GHZ with 3G. However microwaves work in 2,4 GHz band. For this reason, a WiFi device would be more correct to test microwaves leaks.

WiFi Test

It is the same test but testing if it’s possible to connect with your laptop and wireless card to Internet. Thanks to Tecnoblogico .

It is possible to drink water from an Air conditioning ?

A lot of people ask this question: is drinkable water from an Air conditioning?. The answer is simple. It is very dangerous. Air filters in Air conditioning devices capture only part of dust, spores or other particles wich are in the air. Rest part (big or small) arrives to the air stream onto the heat transfer surfaces. This air combined with water makes a perfect place for the spores to grow and germinate very fast.

Legionella bacteria is an example of biological organism wich can ability to survive and reproduce in poorly maintained water systems… then Be careful with water from air conditioning devices.
